Laird have adopted the Cystic Fibrosis Trust as our chosen charity for this year. One of our superstars, Lucia, has been campaigning hard in support of her little sister who has a daily battle with CF.
Cystic Fibrosis is a genetic condition affecting nearly 11,000 people in the UK alone. Around 1 in 25 of us carry the faulty gene without even knowing but to be born with the condition both parents must be a carrier, which then leaves a 1 in 4 chance of having the condition.
CF can be problematic for several parts of the body, for example a large amount of thick, sticky mucus lays on the lungs resulting in infection and bacteria clinging on to the lungs.
With a cocktail of around 40 different drugs a day, breathing equipment, physio therapy for at least 30 mins a day, and digestive enzyme capsules at a minimum, this can attempt to keep symptoms at bay.
Every week on average, 2 CF’ers lose their battle against the condition and another 5 sufferers are welcomed into the world.
The difficulties of cystic fibrosis are constant hospitalisations, antibiotics everyday, potential infertility, difficulty with gaining weight and cross infection with other CF troopers – just to name a few. If conventional, every day treatments fail there is the risk of needing a single, or perhaps even a double lung transplant.
We are reaching out to you to raise awareness, raise money and raise a glass to all our CF troopers! Help us help them and let’s find a cure.
We’d be so grateful if you could spare a few pounds to support this worthwhile cause.
